美國總統歐巴馬(Barack Obama)22日出席馬來西亞吉隆坡所舉辦的東南亞國家協會(ASEAN)，以及東亞峰會時，在記者會上公開表示，美國在亞太地區對抗伊斯蘭國(IS)的聯盟，將包含台灣在內。不過，我國外交部23日回應指出，在國際反恐合作上，我方的角色主要是在協助進行國際人道援助及急難救助工作，並沒有參與相關軍事行動。

前往馬來西亞參加美國與東盟峰會以及東亞峰會的歐巴馬，在22日的記者會上談及全球反恐議題時表示，過去幾年中，美國在亞洲的許多夥伴，一直是恐怖主義的受害者，其中有許多國家便是美國反恐的盟友。因此，他指出，這次參與東盟會議，也將是他加強與亞太地區夥伴，共同打擊伊斯蘭國的機會。

他表示，這些夥伴包含澳洲、加拿大、日本、馬來西亞、紐西蘭、新加坡、韓國以及台灣。

歐巴馬表示，過去1年多，美國組成並領導包含65國在內的廣大聯盟，來對抗伊斯蘭國，但由於外界大多聚焦於美國的領導，許多夥伴的貢獻因此被忽略。他強調，美國將持續領導這個全球聯盟，加強與當地夥伴的合作，最終「將消滅這個組織」。

對於歐巴馬在記者會上的談話，我國外交部23日回應表示，在國際反恐合作上，我方的角色主要是在協助進行國際人道援助及急難救助工作，現階段對中東難民提供人道救援行動，但並沒有參與相關軍事行動。外交部指出，我國政府持續透過美國及相關國家與國際組織，提供人道援助，包括捐贈組合屋、LED照明器具及醫療物資等，捐贈金額高達近千萬美元，為中東地區之人道援助工作貢獻己力。
